There is so much going on in the world today. It has everyone, believer and unbeliever alike, questioning and wondering, what's next? When I hear people talking, I sense fear in what they are saying. With uncertainty, comes fear. The scripture tells us "Fear has torment" (1 John 4:18). It is important for us to know what the scriptures say so that we can minister life and hope to those who are in fear and despair. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that "God has not given us a spirit of fear". Fear is the opposite of faith. As believers, we should not live in fear.
Jesus said in John 16:33 "These things have I spoken unto you, that you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world." Lets break this verse down. First, Jesus says, "These things have I spoken unto you". What did He speak to them? The Word of God. Remember, Jesus said "I only do the things I see my Father do, and I only say the things that the Father says". Jesus was saying I have spoken the Word to you. Then He said, "That you might have peace". We don't have peace just because Jesus said we do. We have peace because we have faith in what He has said and because we believe what His Word say we have "Peace".
The second thing Jesus said was "In the world you shall have tribulation", As believers, we are in this world, but we are not of this world. If you will stay in the Word of God, pray and seek the kingdom with all your heart; then you will be in this world, but not of this world. This means you will be the overcoming conqueror that God says you are. This world will not have the influence on you that it has on those who are not believers, simply because you are allowing the Word and the Spirit of God to influence you and not the world. As a believer, if we allow this world and the things of this world to influence us more than the Word and the Holy Spirit, then we will have tribulation just like the world.
Finally, Jesus said "Be of good cheer for I have overcome the world." Jesus said that we should be of good cheer. We should be happy, joyful, and we should be at peace because Jesus has overcome the world. As long as we are in Christ and He is in us, we overcome the world because Jesus has overcome the world. If you are a believer in Christ, this should make you very, very happy!
