Send Me!

In this day and age in which we live, we don't consider being sent by God.  The thought of being sent is reserved for those who are called to the mission field.  We think being sent means you have to travel to some foreign country.  But that's not what Jesus taught.  In fact, Jesus Himself testified that a prophet hath no honor in his own country (John 4:44).  Notice it says "In his own country".  Jesus wasn't sent to a foreign country.  He was sent to his own country.  John 1:11 says, "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not".  Being sent doesn't mean your are sent to people you don't know.  Being sent means we are sent to our own.  Our own families, our own friends, our own loved ones, our own work places.  When Jesus commissioned His disciples in Mark 16:15-18 to go into all the world and preach the gospel, He was telling them that everywhere they went, to preach the gospel.  He was telling His disciples to go into all their world.  That's what He is saying to us today.  He is telling us to go into all our world and preach the gospel.

Some might say, but I can't preach.  The word preach simply means, to proclaim, announce, tell, disclose, or declare.  There isn't anyone who couldn't do or doesn't do those very things every day.  In fact, even unbelievers preach every day.  They just preach the wrong things.  As believers, we are to preach the Gospel.  The word "Gospel" means "Good News".  As believers, we aren't supposed to talk about the government, the drug problems in the world, or how bad the economy is.  We are to talk about God and His goodness.

We should be preaching the Good News that Jesus has paid the price for all our sins and that He loves us unconditionally.  This is what Jesus meant when He said "Go into all the worlds and preach the Gospel".  I wonder how many of us would be like the prophet Isaiah in the sixth chapter verse 8 and the first part of verse 9.  "I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us?  Then said I, here I am; send me.  And He said, go and tell this people",  This sounds just like "Go into all the world and preach the gospel".  It is clear that God has sent all of us who are believers to preach the gospel, the Good News of who He really is and what He has done for the world!
