Years ago, we sang a song called "Give Thanks". This song began with these word, "Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the Holy One." With Thanksgiving quickly approaching us, it is important to remember why we are celebrating Thanksgiving. Although it is true we are remembering the historical significance of Thanksgiving, it is also true and vitally more important that we give thanks every day, not just one day a year.
We should be thankful every day for Jesus and His victory over death, hell, and the grave. We should be thankful that God loves us so much that He has provided for us everything that pertains to life and godliness (II Peter 1:3). We should thank Him for His great love wherein He has loved us (Ephesians 2:4). We should continually thank Him for blessing us with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). But first and foremost, we should thank Him for redeeming us and making us free from sin and death, as well as bringing us back into fellowship with Him.
You see, Thanksgiving to the believer is something we celebrate every day. It's an attitude of gratitude we have in our hearts and minds every day because of what the Father has done and given us through our Lord and Savior Jesus. Although as believers, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving just like everyone else with family, friends, and football. We will also be ever mindful of what Jesus has done for us. We will be thankful for the day but our hearts will be full of Thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for all He has given us. My prayer for you is that you enjoy this Thanksgiving with loved ones and friends. But most of all, you have an attitude of gratitude for all that the Father God has blessed you with. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
