Fear is a very strong and powerful force in the world today. People are fearful of everything. Actually fear is a spirit. Timothy wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7 "God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind". As believers, we can and should live a fear-free life. If we have fear in our lives, it hinders us. It grips us and it controls the things we do, as well as the decisions we make.
1 John4:18 says "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." Lets look at this scripture a little closer to help us understand more clearly the effects of fear in the life of the believer; as well as the power we possess in overcoming fear. The first thing mentioned is that there is no fear in love. We know the scripture tells us that God is love. If we are in Christ and abiding in God's love, we can live a life without fear. You might say, "I'm a believer and I'm in Christ and I still have fear in my life." Jesus said in John 15 "If we abide in Him, and His Word abides in us, then God's love will abide in us." The word abide means to live. God's Word and love has to live in us. When it does, fear is cast out because perfect love cast out fear. That's the second thing mentioned in 1 John 5:18.
The next thing mentioned is that fear has torment. Torment is demonic. It is mentioned through scripture in connection with satan and the fallen angels. It is used in describing hell. Fear in any from is not of God. Lets look back at the afore mentioned question. I am a believer and I'm in Christ and I still live in fear. Well, the bible says that he that feareth is not made perfect in love. If you are a believer living in fear, the scripture says you are not made perfect in love. It's important for you to get in the Word. Feed your spirit with the Word of God on love. Let God's love dominate your every thought. Let God's love saturate your entire being. Let God who is perfect love cast out all your fears!
