At the start of every new year, it is an opportunity for us to start fresh, to have a new beginning. The apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:13; "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended. But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things things are before". If there was only one thing you do this year, it should be this; forgetting those things which are behind you and reaching forth with eyes and hands of faith for those things which are before you. It's a new year and God is wanting to do new things for us, in us, and through us.
The prophet Isaiah said; "Behold the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare" (Isaiah 42:9). The scripture says is 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, "Old things are passed away, behold all things are become new; and all things are of God." You see God isn't rehashing old things over and over again. He's doing a new things, moving in a new way. Encouraging us to see things in a new light. Encouraging us to look forward with eyes of faith. Encouraging us to reach forth with our hands of faith and grab ahold of the things He has for us. New things. Fresh things.
God doesn't wait a year to make things new. He makes things new everyday. Lamentations 3:22-23 says; "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassion fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." God doesn't want us holding on to old things. Things that keep us from moving forward and growing in Him. He wants us to start everyday fresh and new. He wants us to walk in the fullness of who we are and enjoy every day life in abundance, to the full, until it overflows. It's a new year, a new day, and God is doing a new thing!
